Participating in the RMetS 2025 Conferences in Manchester Thanks to the Legacy Fund

I am truly grateful to have received support from the RMetS Legacy Fund, as it allowed me to attend the Young Careers Student Conference and Annual Weather conference. Without this funding, it would have been much more difficult for me to participate in such an important event. Being able to attend meant I could share my work, hear about the research being done by other students, and begin to place my own studies into the wider context of the field.

The Young Careers Student Conference was especially valuable because it brought together PhD students and early-career researchers at similar stages of their journeys. Having the chance to meet others who are going through the same challenges and successes was reassuring and inspiring. I was able to discuss research methods, exchange advice, and learn from people working on different topics. Here I presented a poster of my research where questions and feedback from attendees were both encouraging and thought-provoking. These conversations not only helped me to improve the way I present my work but also gave me new perspectives and ideas to take forward in my research. The poster session was a great opportunity to build confidence in discussing my project and to make connections with people who share similar interests. The Legacy Fund made it possible for me to continue on and attend the Annual Weather Conference. This was an extraordinary opportunity to connect with a much broader range of people, from established academics and professionals to other early-career scientists. The sessions were very insightful, and I gained valuable knowledge.

What stood out most at both events were the networking opportunities. I was able to meet and build connections with other PhD students, as well as with experienced scientists who offered guidance and encouragement. These connections have already opened up potential collaborations and opportunities for further engagement in the community. I left both conferences feeling more connected, supported, and excited. For all of these reasons, I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity and the support provided.
