With support from the RMetS Legacies Fund, Zain Mulk presented his research to the meteorological community, strengthening his confidence and inspiring him to contribute to the future of meteorology and the vital work it does

It was an absolute delight to have attended the RMetS Early Career & Student Conference in Exeter this year. From the get-go, the conference spurred a comfortable balance between free social interaction amongst attendees and an engaging, organised and concise presentation schedule. I especially enjoyed the ability to visit the posters at any point in time and the diversity of specialised participants throughout the event. 

As a fresh graduate myself, I believe events such as these are tremendously formative experiences for early career professionals. Furthermore, the legacies fund for students in particular had made my attendance to the conference possible – an initiative I now see as vital for aspiring students looking to develop a career in meteorology. Having been given the opportunity to present my research poster to like-minded professionals, I feel a newfound sense of promise and confidence to contribute to the advancement of meteorology, particularly as a means to protect lives. 

At this conference, I took home the message that our collective responsibility for effective meteorology can and should be shared by a multitude of media, sectors and individuals, all working toward a common goal.
